When it comes to improving your health, there’s no debate-eating habits are the foundation. But once healthy eating becomes second nature, regular exercise is the next major pillar to focus on. Exercise supports not only physical strength and endurance, but also mobility, mental health, and long-term well-being. Like nutrition, your approach to exercise should be sustainable, something you can stick with for life, not just during a temporary challenge like training for a 5K and never running again or doing a Tough Mudder one time in your life. Here’s what worked for me.

Note: I will be discussing technical terms as it relates to weight training and fitness. I won’t be going into a lot of the detail of those terms, but if you're interested, I’d be happy to write a separate post going into detail on things like strength training vs. hypertrophy, sets and reps, and other workout terms-just leave a comment or DM me!

From Active Kid to Sedentary Adult

My day job involves a lot of sitting. But it wasn’t always that way. Growing up in the country, I was very active. I played basketball, ran cross country, was on the golf team, and spent hours outside riding bikes, fishing, and just running around. But then came the nerdy side of life. I got my first computer around 10 or 11. We also moved around quite a bit and so while I had friends, I spent a lot more time indoors. I fell hard for computers, comic books, and sprawling tales of imaginary worlds. With that passion came a lot more sitting, reading, gaming, and lounging.
