Chrono Trigger - Thoughts

Having gone through most of my Zelda collection with previous posts, it is refreshing to get to move on to another game outside of the heroic elven lad who wears a green tunic. And what a game this is, both in notoriety and in collectability. That game is Chrono Trigger.

Chrono Trigger is hailed by many, including myself, as one of the best JRPGs ever made if not one of the best video games ever made. It was created by Hironobu Sakaguchi (Final Fantasy), Yuji Horii (Dragon Quest) and the art style was of Akira Toriyama (Dragon Ball, Dragon Quest). It’s like putting together an all star NBA team consisting of Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird.

That’s just one reason this game is sought after. Other reasons include a lower print run due to being released late in the SNES life cycle, JRPG fever ramping up after the release of Final Fantasy VII, nostalgia for the game from people who grew up with it and now have money to spend because they have jobs, etc.

I purchased my copy several years ago, around the time the game was valued at a little over $100. At that time I thought goodness gracious, this is the most I will ever spend on a single video games. Oh how wrong I was. But, I am glad I have this in my collection. It is both a special game to me, a game I played with my cousin as a kid and a game that I can be proud to own.
